Years ago, around the turn of the millennium, during a sweltering summer we
traveled to France to perform a few concerts in some of the old churches in
the wine fields of Burgundy. The others were the soprano Marie-José van den
Beuken and the violist Hildegard Moonen, both from Holland, together with
the cembalist Hans-Martin Knappe, who is the Cantor of the ancient church
here at Kirchdornberg, together with various family members. I had a
miniature mini-disc recorder which was the latest thing in those days,
between the demise of the cassette tape and the limitless gigabytes of solid
state storage of today. Balancing it on a pew in the church of Minot
resulted in a recording from which these three excerpts have been taken.
